Part II
Chakotay had made the holodeck program especially for Kathryn. He sighed, and stared at the doors to the holodeck. He was a little late but hopefully she had had a chance to look over the settings, and maybe saw the box.
He hoped she was preparing herself for the first day of the rest of their lives.
He walked through the doors and glanced around for Kathryn.
What he saw, would haunt him until the day he died, and he hoped that Kathryn hadn't seen it too.
Seven was lying on the bed with a disgruntled look on her face. "The ring is not the right size Commander. I mentioned I was a size seven not a six."
Chakotay's eyes landed on her finger with Kathryn's ring positioned on the ring finger. "What are you doing here?"
Seven gasped, "The computer informed me that you had booked holodeck time and I assumed it was for our 'blossoming romance'."
Chakotay shook his head. "Seven do you make a habit of walking in on private holodeck time?"
Seven stared back at him angry. "I could say the same thing about Captain Janeway. You are my boyfriend, are you not?"
Chakotay was confused. He had told the doctor he would help Seven with her romance training, but she was just supposed to use him as a template for what a relationship would be like.
This was not what he had agreed to. "Seven..."
"Yes I'll marry you Chakotay, but we need to alter the engagement ring so the parameters fit my digits properly."
Chakotay looked at her astounded by her obtuseness, and walked out of the holodeck to hopefully save his relationship with Kathryn.
[Kathryn's Quarters]
By the time Chakotay had reached her quarters, he was totally resentful about what Seven had done.
He didn't know how, after three 'mock dates' she could think he was ready to propose.
He sighed and stood outside Kathryn's door. The sounds he heard made his heart break. There was sobbing, and he knew at that moment, it was her heart that was breaking.
His hand pushed the buzzer. Although he knew her codes, walking in unannounced at this time was probably not the best idea. He heard her wiping her nose, and clearing her throat.
She then answered. "Yes, who is it."
"It's me Kathryn. I -"
"You made your stance on us perfectly clear with the appearance of 'Barbie Girl' there."
He sighed, "Kathryn that's not fair. You know it was -"
"I'll see you on the bridge in the morning. Good night Commander."
With that she closed the lines of communications.
Chakotay walked away, sometimes maybe love wasn't enough.
